"PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT FOR TEENS"

June 19-23, 2017

Session II - 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM | Self-Portrait and Independent Study

Description: For teens interested in attending Northwest School of the Arts or pursuing an arts education and in need of developing a strong portfolio for applications. Work will be tailored to the specific requirements needed for the school of interest. Students can attend one or both sessions. Summer is the perfect time to prepare portfolios for upcoming deadlines.

Description: This workshop will deal with the problems artists face during the beginning, middle, and end stages of a landscape painting. Through demo and discussion, Artist and Instructor Paul Keysar will help participants develop a higher understanding of and gain a greater confidence in painting both the daytime and nighttime landscape. Students will work en plein air and through the aid of photographs in the classroom. We will cover topics such as, how to work with your materials, the use of drawing as a foundation in painting, color choices, and the importance of a good composition. We will address some of the common issues faced when painting from a photograph versus plein air and the difference in light during the day vs. night. Each session will include time for discussion and critique with each student receiving individual guidance as needed. This workshop is suitable for all levels of students working in oil. Recommended supply list will be provided.

Description: Each day will start with a lecture and demo covering topics such as how to work with your materials, composition (placement of foreground, middle ground, and background), color choices, and more. After the demo, each participant will select a spot, from this beautiful lake setting, and begin painting. Individual instruction and critique will be given during this time to help participants develop a higher understanding of and gain a greater confidence in painting the landscape en plein air.

Description: Join us for a late summer plein air painting workshop on the beautiful Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Paul will demonstrate how to lay in an accurate portrayal of the landscape while dealing with the quickly changing light. He will also talk to you about the variety of materials and techniques involved in dealing with the natural environment. Each day will start with a lecture / demo, followed by plenty of time for students to work. Students will receive individualized instruction to meet their needs.
