Nellysford is a small town about 30 minutes outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. The town is set at the bottom of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is primarily a farming community. In this painting, I wanted to show the atmospheric qualities of a passing storm as it relates to an expansive landscape. I wanted to show how the clouds diffuse the light and make it flatter and much cooler. I also wanted to show how the weather blurs the background, making the details all but vanish.
