July 7, 2008 – The Charlotte, North Carolina, Understanding Principles of the Landscape workshop has been rescheduled to July 19th and 20th. July 12-13 ended up not being a good weekend for most who were interested. There are a few spots open if you would still like to attend. Please call 704-596-1286 or email paul@paulkeysar.com to RSVP or for more details.

Please view the workshop flyer / registration form for more details.

The workshop will run from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. each day at the McDowell Nature Preserve and will cost $90.00. Space is limited to eight (8) participants.

This workshop will deal with the problems artists face during the beginning, middle, and end stages of a painting. Through demo, discussion, and critiques, Artist and Instruction Paul Keysar will help participants develop a higher understanding of and gain a greater confidence in painting the landscape. He will cover topics such as, how to work with your materials, the use of drawing as a foundation in painting, color choices, the importance of a good composition, and more.

This workshop is suitable for students of all skill levels. Paul will start each day with a short lecture and discussion time, followed by a demonstration. The remainder of each day will be spent painting the landscape with each student receiving individual guidance as needed.

April 22, 2008 – Below are three recently completed commissions.

How can I commission you to paint a painting?
If you would like to commission a landscape or still life painting, please call me at 704-596-1286, or email me, to discuss what you have in mind. When commissioning a painting, we will usually start by discussing the details of the painting—the subject, size, medium, colors, etc. Then, I will draw and send you a compositional sketch or two, for you to review. When ready to move forward, you will receive a commission agreement to sign detailing the agreed cost and estimated timeframe for completion. A partial deposit will be requested (the amount determined by the size and scope of the painting) along with the signed agreement, and once received, I will begin the painting. Whether it's a subject you have always wanted painted, a spot on a wall you would like filled, or a unique gift you would like to give, it's easy to commission a painting.

January 9, 2008 – A couple of months ago, I was contacted by an editor of Garden and Gun Magazine who had come across my work while searching the Internet. She selected my painting, English Pointer to use as the featured painting for the regular article "Good Dog." The article with my painting is in the current January/February 2008 issue of Garden and Gun Magazine. Garden and Gun Magazine is a 21st Century Southern lifestyle magazine, which launched in early 2007. It is carried in major retailers. If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, I encourage you to give it a read. The name drew me to pick up the first issue last spring, and I quite enjoy it.

September 11, 2007 – Late August, I submitted information about my work to the website emptyeasel.com in hopes of being reviewed. Each week, a new artist is featured on the EE Reviews section of the website. I am happy to announce that my work was selected for review, and I am the featured artist for September 5, 2007. Please take a moment to read the article, which is written entirely from the perspective of the site owner. He understood completely what I was trying to convey—the effects of light and weather—in the three paintings selected, and that of my work in general. After reading the article, I encourage you to browse the rest of the website, which is a valuable resource for artists and art lovers. (Read the full article by clicking this link...)
