On the affects of light and weather in my paintings...
As an artist, I want the viewer to feel the coolness of an incoming storm or the warmth of the sun as it blankets a field in its light. People today are often stuck inside an office, rarely seeing the sun, and have very little time to enjoy the beauty that surrounds them. It is my hope to remind my audience of the beauty of nature, giving them, through my paintings, a relationship with the land that is so quickly turning into shopping malls and sub-divisions. I want the viewer to feel a connection with my paintings, recollecting the feelings and memories of past times or places.
On the Conquest Series of paintings...
"Man's conquest of Nature turns out, in the moment of its consummation, to be Nature's conquest of Man." - C.S. Lewis
I was inspired to start this series by my painting Green. Within this series, at first glance, there is beauty in the rendering of the paint; however, upon further introspection one can see destruction and chaos.
These paintings depict the relationship between man and nature. On one side, man uses nature to fit his needs, often disregarding the impact he is making, such as in the painting Bulldozer in the Clearing. Nature has no regard for man's desires, and in turn, destroys what man has created. Whether with weeds growing in a yard, a tornado, or a fire, as in my painting House Fire.
